Root Canal Therapy

Endodontics, or Root Canal Therapy is carried out when there is a dead or dying nerve in a tooth.

A dead or dying nerve usually progresses to form an abcess.

Root canal treatment entails cleaning out the pulp (nerve) chamber and root canals inside the tooth and placing a dressing to sterilise the inside of the root canals.

When the tooth becomes symptomless, the pulp chamber and root canals are filled and sealed to the end of the roots. The number of root canals varies depending on the tooth, but usually ranges between one and four canals.

Root canal therapy usually takes three appointments, but this can sometimes be increased, depending on the response of the tooth to treatment.
